My Philosophy

I am a storyteller first, so every photo session I book, I approach as a story, or more accurately: as a film.

My photographs are a unique mix of fashion, classic cinema and time travel. I admire quirky detail-oriented directors such as Wes Anderson and the quirkiness of directors like John Cameron Mitchell and John Waters, but at the same time, I admire the visceral quality of a classic Scorsese flick. These artists leave a deep impression on my creative memory, which manifests and influences my photography work today.

In addition to these auteurs, I also draw inspiration from historic moments in time. I love to re-create time periods -- and have a noticable affinity for the fads and fashions of the 50's and 20's.

About me

I was born and raised in Honolulu. I've been interested in art and color ever since I could first pick up a pencil. As a child, I practiced re-creating the cartoon and comic characters I surrounded myself with. You know that test in the comics where they ask you to draw a turtle to see if you qualify for art school? Yeah, I took that test for fun.

In my years of graphic design experience I've had the pleasure of working with many diverse clients, each with its own unique set of demands. I started offering photography as part of my web design services, mostly documenting products or customer service shots. It wasn't long before I started to pursue photography more seriously.

Because of my experience on the stage and screen (both on camera and off), I compose my shots as though they were movie scenes, which results in memorable images that are unique, but somehow familiar.
